E-mail government officials in support of breastfeeding!
Follow this link to AZGovMail, where you can send an e-mail to all
Arizona state representatives, Federal representatives, the Governor, the President, or any combination of
these that you desire. It's as easy as writing one e-mail! This is a FREE service that requires you to
register, and once you've registered, you can use this service anytime you want to send anything to those
members of the government.
We have written an example for you in support of breastfeeding (see below). If you wish to use our letter,
just copy and paste it. Or, write a letter of your own!
August 1st-7th is World Breastfeeding Week. I wanted to take this opportunity to remind you of the importance
of breastfeeding for our children.
Breastfeeding meets all of a child's nutritional needs while providing many health benefits. It boosts a
child's immune system, reducing incidence of ear infection, gastro-intestinal disorders, and some diseases
like Type I Diabetes. It also has many health benefits for the mother including reducing the risk of breast
cancer and ovarian cancer.
In addition to individual health benefits, breastfeeding provides significant social and economic benefits to
the nation, including reduced health care costs and reduced employee absenteeism for care attributable to
child illness. The direct economic benefits to the family are also significant. A savings of >$400 per child
for food purchases can be expected during the first year when a baby is breastfed.
This is an important issue for all Americans. I urge you to endorse breastfeeding and support policies and
legislation on behalf of our nation's health.
