A Midwifery Resource for Expectant Parents

Pregnancy and the birth of a child are important life altering events. The experience will have lasting physical and emotional effects on both mother and child. The care giver that a woman chooses has a direct impact on every aspect of the pregnancy experience. Yet most women know little to nothing about the care givers they choose.

Few women know of an important option they have in pregnancy, and throughout the life cycle - the care of a midwife. Midwife means "with woman". The literal meaning- to be "with woman" during childbirth, is at the heart of the "midwifery model" of care.

This page is designed to inform you about the special care midwives give. It also includes resources about pregnancy, childbirth, breastfeeding and related topics. For residents of the Phoenix Metropolitan area, a thorough listing of the local midwives can be found with up to date information directly from each midwife. Those of you outside the Phoenix area will find help locating a midwife near you. There is a discussion area for all topics relating to pregnancy and childbirth, and if midwifery care is not right for you, you will still find a variety of helpful resources.

Please be aware that while most of these sites and books have been visited by the webauthor, it is impossible to review all of them. Therefore every link or item on this site should be considered a resource, not a recommendation.
